Jeju Rental Car Contract Checklist
Most Jeju rental car problems do not start on the road. They start at pickup, when a tired traveler signs a Korean or English rental agreement without checking the small details. The goal is not to read every legal word. The goal is to confirm the few contract items that decide whether your trip feels simple or stressful.
This checklist is based on official travel, airport, consumer protection, and driving permit guidance. Use it before you leave the rental lot, especially if you are arriving through Jeju International Airport.
The rental agreement is your pickup checklist
The Korea Consumer Agency warns that rental car disputes often involve contract terms, cancellation fees, accident handling costs, repair fees, deductibles, loss of use, and vehicle condition checks. It also recommends checking cancellation rules, damage waiver scope, coverage limits, exclusions, pickup condition, and return location before or during rental.
For foreign travelers, the contract is also where language support, the registered driver, payment responsibility, fuel return, and accident reporting rules become practical. If a staff member says something that matters, ask where it appears in the agreement or booking confirmation.
1. Driver name, license, and passport
Start with the driver section. The main driver name should match the passport, the home country license, and the International Driving Permit, if one is required. KoROAD notes that name spelling mismatches between an IDP and passport can affect recognition of the permit. VisitKorea also advises travelers to carry the passport or alien registration card, and some rental companies may ask for the home country license as well.
- Confirm the main driver name and spelling.
- Check that every additional driver is listed before driving.
- Carry passport, home license, and IDP together if applicable.
- Confirm vehicle class eligibility, especially if renting a van.
Need the document basics first? Read Orcar's Korea IDP guide before pickup.
2. Price, deposit, and card responsibility
Before you sign, compare the final rental price and included options with your booking confirmation. Orcar collects payment when you book. No security deposit or security hold is required. The payment card does not need to be in the driver's or the booker's name.
- Final rental price and included options.
- Orcar does not require a security deposit or security hold.
- The Orcar payment cardholder may differ from the driver or booker.
- Keep your booking and payment records.
- Fees for no show, late pickup, early return, or cancellation.
For more on Orcar's no-deposit policy, see the Jeju rental car deposit guide.
3. Insurance and damage responsibility
Do not stop at the word insurance. VisitKorea explains that rental car insurance in Korea typically includes personal injury, third party injury, and third party property coverage, while coverage for the rented vehicle itself may be included or added as an option. The Korea Consumer Agency recommends checking the vehicle damage waiver scope, deductible, repair coverage limit, and exclusions such as wheels, tires, or single vehicle accidents.
- Is the rented vehicle itself covered?
- What is the deductible or self pay amount?
- What is the repair coverage limit?
- Are tires, wheels, underbody, keys, or single vehicle accidents excluded?
- What happens if the car cannot be rented out during repair?
For a deeper insurance explanation, read CDW in Jeju rental cars. For pickup photos, use the damage photo checklist.
4. Pickup, return, fuel, and accident rules
Jeju International Airport's official car rental page says travelers should use the rental car waiting room and board the provider operated shuttle bus from the Rental Car House outside Gate 5. If your rental company uses a shuttle, confirm the pickup point, final shuttle time, and emergency contact before leaving arrivals.
The contract should also state where to return the vehicle, what fuel level is expected, and what to do after an accident. The Korea Consumer Agency recommends returning only to the designated place, comparing fuel before and after rental, notifying the rental company immediately after an accident, photographing damage, and checking repair estimates or maintenance statements before paying accident related charges.
- Exact pickup and return location.
- Shuttle route and operating contact.
- Fuel type and return fuel level.
- Late return fee and grace period.
- Accident reporting number and required documents.

FAQ
Do I need to understand every Korean word in the contract?
No. Focus first on driver name, payment record, insurance scope, damage exclusions, fuel, return location, and accident reporting. If anything is unclear, ask for the staff explanation in writing or in the booking message. Orcar requires no security deposit or security hold.
Should I sign before checking the car?
Do not leave the lot before checking the car. Photograph all sides, wheels, windshield, interior, dashboard mileage, and fuel level. If you find damage, make sure it is recorded before departure.
Can an additional driver start driving later?
Only if that driver is registered according to the rental company's rules. Add the driver before they drive, and make sure their license and IDP documents are accepted.
What should I do if the contract price is different from my booking?
Pause pickup and compare each line item: vehicle class, insurance option, child seat, late return fee, and taxes. If you booked with Orcar, contact support before signing a price you do not recognize. Orcar requires no security deposit or security hold.
